Ubbo Emmius [1547 - 1625] was born in East Frisia. He was a historiographer who became in 1614 the first rector of the Academy of Groningen in the Netherlands. He had studied at the Rostock University and later in Geneva with the Calvinist Theodorus Beza, by whom he was greatly influenced.
